Once the domain is registered

All Polish domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Polish domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but BB Online make no charge to transfer a domain to another Polish domain name registrar.

Background

It is one of the founding members of CENTR. Terms and conditions concerning the Registration of the Domain Name:

1. The Domain Name may consist exclusively of the following characters: Latin alphabet letters, digits and character "-".

2. The character "-" must not be placed at the beginning of the Domain Name, at the end thereof and on the 3rd and 4th position within the Domain Name concurrently (the only exception allowed is the Domain names with "xn--" prefix).

3. The Domain Name may consist up to 63 characters in total - it applies to every single name in every single Domain, regardless of the level/extension, for example: .pl, .com.pl.

4. The size of letters in the Domain Name is of no significance for the maintenance of the Domain Name.

5. In the Tender, the Tenderer is obliged to provide: the Domain Name, the Tenderer's identification data together with a person authorized to act on behalf thereof, and at least two servers intended to maintain the Domain Name.

IDN abbreviation stands for Internationalized Domain Name. IDN defines a domain name containing national diacritical characters specific for particular language, for example it is possible to register a domain name with the following Polish diacritics: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź and ż. This gives the registrants a possibility of registering original domain names that spells and sounds correct. Technically there are then two forms of the domain: an outer form - with the diacritics, and a inner technical form transformed by means of special algorithm that is called Punycode. into a form which can be input into DNS. The technical form begins with "xn--" prefix followed by a string of Latin characters.

A short history regarding the history of polish characters in domain names:

• 11th September 2003 - launching a registration of domain names with the "xn--" prefix; only Polish subscript allowed: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś ;, ź and ż.

• 18th September 2003 - release of registration of domain names with the "xn--" prefix in the other zones managed by NASK; only Polish subscript allowed.

• 6th October 2003 - German diacritics release: ä, ö and ü

• 20th October 2003 - release of characters derived from the following subscripts: Latin-1 Supplement and Latin Extended-A.

• 3rd November 2003 - release of characters derived from the following subscripts: Greek, Hebrew and Arabic.

• 26th February 2004 - release of characters derived from the following subscript Cyrillic. These are currently the available second level domains under the ccTLD ".pl". (Besides the numerous amount of geographical second level domains names)
