Netherlands (.nl): You don't need to be based in the Netherlands to register a .nl domain name, but if you are based outside the Netherlands the admin contact for the domain name needs to be based in the Netherlands. If you do not have a local contact, we can supply a local contact for you. In addition to the initial electronic application we make, a fax needs to be signed by the registrant and returned to us. If you are applying for a personal domain name, we need a copy of a valid passport, identity card or driving licence, or a copy of a recent extract (i.e. no older than six months) from the Population Register, providing evidence that the Applicant for a Domain Name is a natural person.
Maximum length of an domain name is 63 characters, and the minimum is 2 characters (although the Netherlands registry recommend 3 characters as a minimum).
