Once the domain is registered

All Brazilian domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

Background

.br is the Internet country code top level domain name (ccTLD) for Brazil, which is also officially known as the Federative Republic of Brazil. It is the largest country in South America and also the fifth largest country in the world, further making it the fifth most populous country. It's first language is Portuguese. Before 2005 it was operated by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, but the .br domain name is now run by the Brazilian Network Information Centre. As the domain name is intended for Brazilian residents, applicants outside the country must have a local contact. The .br domain name is also the most popular Portuguese website suffix, surpassing even .com in popularity.

Registrations are at a third-level under various second-level domain labels. The second-level labels have varying restrictions and are selected from a list that defines the category your domain name is similar to. Various examples of this are as follows: site.art.br would be found in the art category, whilst site.org.br would be found in the category for non-governmental organisations. However, this excludes universities as tertiary education - though they are able to register under the edu.br domain name, some use com.br or just .br (mainly public universities). As of Febuary 2007, it is common for applicants to ignore most second-level labels and just go for com.br, leaving the com.br domain name to have almost 90% of all registrants because, though the label is intended for general trade, since 2008, it may be applied for by individuals.
